A Guide for Beginners on How to Get a Website Up and Running

| How to Get a Website | Sunday, August 30th, 2009

So many people want to learn how to create a website and I will walk you through the process right here.  Getting your own website is not a difficult thing to do even if you aren’t computer savvy.
First you need to decide on a name for your website. You can go to GoDaddy and right there on their homepage you can type in the ideas for your website name and it will tell you if the name is available. You want to make sure that the name of your website contains the name of what the website is about. If your site is about dog collars you should make sure the site contains “dogcollars” somewhere in the name. All you do now is buy that name from Godaddy for about 10 dollars a year.
Once you buy the name you will have to set up a hosting account for your website. Hostgator is a great place to host your website and there is a hostgator banner to your right on this page. Just click the picture which will take you to their site and sign up for a baby hosting account. This way you can host multiple websites from your one hostgator hosting account. For more on how to do this see my post on how to create a website using hostgator.
Now that you have learned how to get a website, you need to learn how to point your website to your hosting account. Hostgator will email you with your name servers, they are long numbers that begin with NS. You will copy these numbers and then log into your godaddy account and go to “host domain elsewhere” and then go to “change nameservers”. Erase the numbers that are in there and replace them with your name server numbers. Now your site is almost done. Now you will log into your site/cpanel and install fantastico deluxe on your site and then install wordpress. They are just buttons you will find in Hostgator. To log into your site you simply enter your site name followed by wp-admin and put in your user name and password. Then you add posts at will and you are on your way to earn money online.
